Michael White, a W&L sophomore from Richmond Va., who is majoring in journalism and studio art, had one of his photographs featured in the New York Times Education Life section on Sunday Nov. 4, 2007. The photograph featured W&L students wearing bow ties and included a side view of the Colonnade in the background.

Photography has been part of the Art Department's curriculum since 2003, but in 2006 Christa Bowden, a full-time professor, was hired to fully develop the offerings. " I knew I wanted to major in journalism at W&L,", says White, " but I also enjoy photography, so the two really came together for me."
