LEXINGTON, Va. -- Freshman midfielder Kate Donnelly (Houston, Texas/St. John's School) totaled a career-high four goals to lead the fifth-ranked Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to a 20-4 win over Sweet Briar on Wednesday afternoon at Watt Field.
The Generals (12-1, 5-0) opened the contest with nine-unanswered goals from seven different players en route to a 16-2 halftime advantage as they cruised to the 16-goal victory. Donnelly’s career performance was supplemented by sophomore midfielder Meredith Freeman (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS), who had three goals. Senior attacker Laura Henson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) notched one goal and a game-high four assists. Sophomore attacker Britten Mathews (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) and freshman attacker Emily Mathews (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) each added two goals and one assist. Senior Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) and freshman Katharine Farrar (Lexington, Va./Episcopal) split time in between the pipes and combined to make two saves.
The Vixens (3-5, 0-4) were led by freshman midfielder Stewart Hulfish (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Ireton), who tallied two goals and two assists, while junior midfielder Megan Behrle (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) and senior midfielder Ellie Donahue (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal) had one goal apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Lisa Weisbrich (West Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) played the entire time in goal and stopped four shots.
Washington and Lee returns to competition on Sat., Apr. 12 as it hosts ODAC-foe Guilford for a 2:00 pm game.
