W&L Golf Resides in Fourth Place After First Round at Jekyll Island Invitational



JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee golf team currently resides in fourth place out of 26 teams following the first round at the three-day Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational held in Jekyll Island, Ga.

The Generals fired an opening round 300 and trail overall leader Methodist College by just five strokes.  The Monarchs shot a 295 and are followed by Huntingdon (298), Illinois Wesleyan (299), W&L (300) and Oglethorpe (301).

Individually, senior Nathaniel James (Keller, Texas/Keller) is in first place after carding a two under par score of 70.  Also for W&L, sophomore Brad Watts (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) shot a 74, freshman Matt Langan (Prospect, Ky./Trinity) and sophomore Joe Gibson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) notched a 78 and senior Steven Spivey (Martinsville, Va./Martinsville) fired an 82.

Action continues on Saturday morning from Jekyll Island.
