The Residential Life staff is comprised of sophomore, junior and senior student leaders who are selected through a competitive process during fall term for the next academic year. Resident Assistants (RA's) work with upper-division students in Gaines Hall, Woods Creek Apartments and University theme houses. Dormitory Counselors (DC's) work with first-year students in the first-year residence halls: Graham Lees, Baker, Davis, Gilliam and the first floor of Gaines Hall.
Training for Residence Life staff occurs throughout the academic year and for a week-long intensive program one week before Orientation in the fall of each year.

Trust - a key to working together. Burr Datz, Director of Leadership Development,
leads the staff in discussion.
Dormitory Counselors
Dormitory Counselors are juniors and seniors who live in the first-year residence halls and assist students with the academic and social transition to college. Approximately 12-20 students live on each hall with their assigned DC. The selection process to serve as a DC is rigorous; these upperclass students are knowledgeable about Washington and Lee and are available to answer questions and discuss problems. They also are entrusted with enforcing the residence halls policies of the University.
First-year students should always feel free to call upon their DC for advice and information. Click here for a resource directory of all Dormitory Counselors.
