Student Health Insurance

Information for Students

By University policy all students are required to provide evidence of health and hospitalization insurance coverage to supplement the medical care provided by the University. The Health Insurance Information form must be returned to the Student Health Center no later than August 1 before the student's first fall term at the University.

Law students who do not return the Insurance will be automatically enrolled and billed for the cost of the Student Accident and Health Insurance Policy endorsed by W&L. All international students are required to purchase coverage through the Washington and Lee endorsed policy or to provide detailed documentation of a comparable policy in force while they are enrolled at W&L.

College students may lose their eligibility under their parents’ group insurance plan because they exceed the maximum age limit. Other students have no access to health insurance or do not have access to care in the Lexington area beyond services provided by the Student Health Center because of PPO and HMO arrangements. For these reasons, it is important to review your situation to determine if you are properly insured for accidents and sickness. Married students may elect to insure their spouse and children through this policy. You will receive a benefit summary card with the cost and a description of the available Student Accident and Health Policy in a separate mailing. A full detailed brochure is available on-line through this site.

The Student Insurance Coordinator at Washington and Lee will assist with filing claims for students enrolled in the University endorsed Accident and Health Policy. Claim forms, policy brochures and enrollment information for the Washington and Lee student insurance plan are available in the Student Health Center, the University Counseling Center and on-line at http://www.studentassist.com/
