Meet the Staff

Jane T. Horton, MD
Director of Health Services

Dr. Horton is board certified in Internal Medicine. She earned her AB degree from Dartmouth College and her MD from the University of Vermont. She also pursued graduate work in nutrition at Cornell University while in medical school. Dr. Horton completed her post-graduate training in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia Hospital.

Christy Barongan has been with the University Counseling Center since 2002. Before coming to W&L, she was an assistant professor at Mary Baldwin College and at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Her professional interests include attachment and relational therapy, women’s and multicultural issues, and wellness/positive psychology.

Jennifer Sayre joined the University Counseling Service in the Fall of 2004. Before coming to the Counseling Center she was an assistant professor in the Psychology Department and a private practice Clinical Psychologist. Her professional interests include cognitive-behavioral therapy for anxiety and depression, sexual assault, grief issues, and learning disorders. She lives in Lexington with her husband, Bill Sayre who is a physician at Lexington Internists and their three children, William (7), Ella (5), and Lee (2).

Kirk E. Luder

Kirk Luder joined the University Counseling Service as a full-time clinician in 2004 after serving as the W&L consulting psychiatrist for the past 5 years. He has a longstanding interest in treating the college population, having previously served as the consulting psychiatrist to Middlebury College and continuing to consult for the Counseling Service at Virginia Military Institute. He has a broad range of professional interests including helping students with anxiety and mood disorders, addiction, ADHD, and issues related to sexual orientation. Kirk lives in Lexington with his family and his wife Theresa Luder, who is a nurse in the W&L Student Health Center. They have four children, Bryan (23), Beth (14), Chris (12), and Rose (10).

Beth Curry joined the University Counseling Center in the fall of 2007. Before coming to Washington & Lee she served as the Coordinator of Wellness Education at Lynchburg College, and prior to that she was an assistant professor in Health and Physical Education at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College. Her professional interests include cognitive-behavioral therapy, substance abuse prevention, student-athletes, GLBT issues, and sport psychology.
